TALES OF SPACE AND TIME |
Wells, H. G. |
$ 475.00 |
Wells, H. G. TALES OF SPACE AND TIME. New York: Doubleday & McClure Co., 1899. Original blindstamped maroon cloth.
First American Edition, dated a year earlier than the English edition, but nonethless probably preceded by it. This is Wells's classic collection of five science fiction tales: "The Crystal Egg," "The Star," "A Story of the Stone Age," "A Story of the Days to Come" and "The Man Who Could Work Miracles."
This copy is in the probably-earlier binding of maroon cloth decorated in blind and lettered (on the spine) in gilt; there is another binding of light green cloth decorated and lettered in dark green, which is believed to have come later. This copy does not include the errata slip at p. 109, but this may be true of most maroon copies (as the slip was apparently inserted only in the last copies to be bound up). This is a near-fine copy, with scarcely any wear and with very little of the usual fading of the spine (virtually unavoidable with this color cloth). See Wells Soc. 16 and Hammond C4.
