First Blackie edition of this Henty tale about the Zulu Wars. Routledge of London began publishing this title in 1884, but in late 1895 they sold the copyright (and unsold sheets) to Blackie, who of course was publishing many newer Henty titles. This is Blackie's own edition, with new illustrations, actually published in August 1896; shortly thereafter they issued other versions of this title that actually consisted of the purchased Routledge sheets.

This is a near-fine copy, with scarcely any wear or soil. This title is not nearly as common as Blackie's standard five-shilling titles that were coming out at the same time. Newbolt 17.7.
