Henty, G[eorge]. A[lfred]. "A Desperate Gang. A Story of the Australian Bush." In: BOYS Illustrated Annual. [Vol II.] London: Sampson Low, Marston & Company, n.d. [1894]. Original pictorial red cloth.
Henty's tale is serialized in ten instalments of this periodical for boys -- accompanied by six illustrations. (Subsequently "A Desperate Gang" appeared in book form in Partridge's THROUGH FIRE AND STORM, in 1898.) BOYS began in late 1892, published by the UK Band of Hope Union; Sampson Low took it over in six months, and within two years of its birth BOYS was absorbed into BOY'S OWN PAPER (in fact the final page of this volume explains this conversion) -- this this is the second and final volume. This copy is in very good condition (cloth generally a bit faded, as usual with red, minor edge-wear). Newbolt 199.
