First Edition. As Newbolt notes, this book grew out of THE SOVEREIGN READER, which Henty first wrote for schoolchildren in 1887 and then updated it several times -- ending finally with this volume, just after the Queen's death (with the earlier Notes to assist schoolchildren removed). This copy is fine except that the royal purple cloth has as usual faded significantly on the spine. Newbolt 94.1.
