Remington, Frederic ("written and illustrated by"). SUNDOWN LEFLARE. New York and London: Harper & Brothers, 1899. 4 pp undated ads. Original brown cloth decorated in orange, green and white.
First Edition of the third book written by Remington (preceded only by PONY TRACKS (1895) and CROOKED TRAILS (1898)). This volume of five tales about Sundown includes twelve plates by the author.
Sundown was cross-bred, red and white, so he never got mentally in sympathy with either strain of his progenitors. He knew about half as much concerning Indians as they did themselves, while his knowledge of white men was in the same proportion.
This is a fine, bright copy (Remington 10-cent postage stamp affixed to the front endpaper, early browned catalogue entry affixed to the rear endpaper). Blanck 16492.
