Verne, Jules. THE CLAIM ON FORTY MILE CREEK and FLOOD AND FLAME. Part One / Part Two of THE GOLDEN VOLCANO. Translated from the French by I. O. Evans. [In Two Volumes.] London: Arco Publications, 1962. Original black cloth, with dust jackets. 2 vols.
First Editions in the English language. Two cousins are surprised to learn they are co owners of a claim in the Klondike gold fields, and journey there -- where they meet two young ladies but also some ruthless desperadoes; things get really complicated when their claim turns out to be within an active volcano... LE VOLCAN D'OR was published in French in 1906, the year after Verne's death; it was not translated into English until Evans did it for these (individually-issued) volumes of the Fitzroy Edition of Verne's works. Some copies were shipped to America where they were equipped with an Associated Booksellers title page; today these American copies are considerably more common. These copies are fine, in near-fine (slightly soiled) dust jackets; both volumes are inscribed and signed by the translator. See Taves & Michaluk V058.
