Verne, Jules. KONGRE, THE WRECKER: or, The Lighthouse at the End of the World. In: THE BOY'S OWN ANNUAL [1914-1915]. London: "Boy's Own Paper" Office, (1915). Original brown cloth pictorially decorated in green, red, tan, olive and grey, beveled.
First Appearance in English of this maritime tale by Jules Verne, complete in six issues of The Boy's Own Paper that are included in this 1914-1915 annual volume. Included are many of the Roux illustrations that had appeared in the original French version. This tale did not appear in book form for almost a decade, as THE LIGHTHOUSE AT THE END OF THE WORLD. The annual volume also includes numerous other interesting tales and illustrations, including a full-color five-panel foldout of British regimentary uniforms, and a full-color three-panel foldout of Wellington at Waterloo. Near-fine condition (minor scratching of the front cover illustration) -- quite remarkable condition for a hefty 90-year-old volume meant for boys.
