TWENTY THOUSAND LEAGUES UNDER THE SEAS |
Verne, Jules |
$ 625.00 |
Verne, Jules. TWENTY THOUSAND LEAGUES UNDER THE SEAS; or, The Marvellous and Exciting Adventures of Pierre Aronnax, Conseil his Servant, and Ned Land, a Canadian Harpooner. Illustrated. Chicago: Donnelley, Loyd & Co., 1875. Original dark blue cloth decorated in black and gilt.
Early American edition of one of Verne's most famous tales, published as a volume in Donnelley Loyd's "Lakeside Library." TWENTY THOUSAND LEAGUES first came out in America in late 1872, by Osgood in Boston. Donnelley Loyd, in their "Lakeside Library," published TWENTY THOUSAND LEAGUES in 1875 (as here) and again in 1876, both individually and combined with THE TOUR OF THE WORLD IN EIGHTY DAYS.
This is a good-plus copy, rebacked within its original cloth binding and preserving the original yellow endpapers. Quite an uncommon edition (this is the earliest Donnelley Loyd edition of Verne; most were dated 1876). See Taves & Michaluk V006.
