$ 325.00 |
Verne, Jules. DROPPED FROM THE CLOUDS. Translated from the French by W. H. G. Kingston. Twenty-Eighth Thousand. London: Sampson Low, Marston & Company, n.d. Original green cloth decorated in light blue, with color illustration applied to front cover.
"Twenty-Eighth Thousand," i.e. indicating that with this impression, Sampson Low had issued that many copies over approximately thirty years. Sampson Low began issuing this particular format around 1905, and continued doing so for about half a dozen years; some copies say "Authorised Copyright Edition" on the front cover, while others (like this one) have a swirling light blue design on front cover and spine. Included are nine plates, one of which is in color (the frontispiece, which also appears on the front cover).
This copy is near-fine (spine gilt less than bright, some foxing on the first and last leaves). Cited in Taves & Michaluk V013.
