Pictures in Color Reproduced from Paintings by Maxfield Parrish. New York: Duffield & Co., 1911. Original very dark blue cloth with applied color illustration on the front cover.
First Maxfield Parrish Edition of one of the most famous and oft-reprinted anthologies in the English language. A minor poet, Palgrave published a dozen books of verse which are now forgotten but he is remembered chiefly as an anthologist; THE GOLDEN TREASURY, compiled with the help and advice of his friend Tennyson [to whom the 1861 first edition was dedicated], is probably the most famous anthology of poems and lyrics in the English language. [CGEL]
This edition illustrated by Maxfield Parrish was published on the 50th anniversary of that first edition; there are eight color plates on glossy paper, each with tissue guard printed in red, plus illustrated endpapers. Condition is very good-plus, perhaps near-fine (light wear at the binding extremities). Item #14269
