Translated by Stanford L. Luce. Edited by Arthur B. Evans. Introduction & Notes by Walter James Miller. Middletown CT: Wesleyan University Press, (2002). Original black cloth, with dust jacket.
First Edition in the English language, more than a century after the original French edition. It is the tale of a search for a father by a young man (or is it?), along the then-uncharted Orinoco River of Venezuela; the book is quite anti-colonial in tone. LE SUPERBE ORENOQUE was published in 1898, but Sampson Low (Verne's U.K. publisher) broke a 25-year relationship with Verne by declining to publish this title. As a result, the book was not published in English for 104 years, until this; included are many of the original Georges Roux illustrations from the French edition. This is a fine copy in a fine jacket. See Taves & Michaluk V047. Item #10655
