MINGO and Other Sketches in Black and White. Joel Chandler Harris.

MINGO and Other Sketches in Black and White.

Boston: James R. Osgood and Company, 1884. Original light grey-green cloth decorated in black.

First Edition of Harris's third book, preceded only by UNCLE REMUS and NIGHTS WITH UNCLE REMUS. This volume consists of four tales, of which "Mingo" actually is the shortest; the longest is "At Teague Poteet's." Though not told by Uncle Remus, the tales involve people both "black and white"; as in the prior two books, there is much black dialect.~This copy is in light grey-green cloth, one of several colors used without precedence (we have also had ochre and aqua blue); it is in near-fine condition (the slightest of rubbing at the extremities). In our experience MINGO is quite a scarce book, especially in this condition. Blanck 7112 (citing grey or green cloth, but not ochre or aqua). Item #11417
