Boston: Houghton, Osgood & Company, 1878. Original terra-cotta cloth decorated in black and gilt, beveled.
First Edition, which consisted of only 3,000 copies (some of which were not bound up until 1886, and some of which -- 665 to be exact -- were never bound up but were "ground up" in November 1897). In short, this title, published four years before Longfellow died, was not a hot seller -- though it does include his "Birds of Passage" group of poems.~This copy is in the primary binding, with "Houghton Osgood & Co" at the foot of the spine, and is in terra-cotta cloth (one of several colors used). Condition is bright and just about fine (the slightest of rubbing at the corners). Blanck 12199. Item #11697
