London: Chatto & Windus, 1887. 32 pp ads dated Sept 1886. Original blue cloth decorated in silver and black.
First Edition of this handsomely-bound collection of tales, some of which (like "Thrawn Janet") are along the same vein as JEKYLL AND HYDE -- Stevenson called such stories his "creepers."~This copy has the earliest ad catalogue and light green patterned endpapers (some copies have light grey -- no priority); it is in just-about-fine condition, with scarcely any wear at all and with the silver stars brighter than usual.
