A TILLYLOSS SCANDAL. J. M. Barrie.

A TILLYLOSS SCANDAL.

New York: Lovell, Coryell & Company, n.d.[1893] (spine of wrapper dated March 1893). Original light brown wrappers decorated in dark brown.

First Edition, first state (with the East Tenth Street address on the title page, as opposed to the later 16th Street address). A TILLYLOSS SCANDAL is an unauthorized collection of Barrie stories and articles that had appeared in mostly-Scottish periodicals during the years 1887-1892; there was no corresponding English edition. Some of the pieces are quite amusing -- such as "Shutting a Map," a diatribe about the impossibility of re-folding a "pocket" map. This constitutes the 17th volume in this publisher's "Bellmore Series"; the same sheets were also issued in blue cloth, probably slightly later. We find it to be quite uncommon today, especially in these fragile wrappers.~This is a near-fine copy (the wrapper's spine is a little sunned, but there is very little wear) -- remarkable for such a fragile volume.
