[1 of 200 signed copies] A Play. London: [Morland Press,] 1923. Original full limp vellum, in the original green cloth box with spine label.
First Edition, being one of 200 copies numbered and signed by Conrad (this being #177) -- issued as the fourth title in the Morland Press's "The Vine Books" series. This was Conrad's dramatization of his tale "Because of the Dollars," which had been published in WITHIN THE TIDES (1915). The play was never produced on the stage; his other two plays, "The Secret Agent" and "One Day More," were also unsuccessful.~LAUGHING ANNE has a highly unusual binding of full limp vellum, simply printed in gilt on its spine. This is an unusually clean, fine copy, with very little of the warping that typically afflicts full-vellum-without-boards. Included is the original clamshell case of green cloth with spine label, in very good condition (this case is actually quite scarce, because warping vellum does not like to be so confined). At 200 copies only, this is one of the most severely-limited signed Conrad editions. Cagle A59 (the last item included in Cagle). Item #13104
