First Edition of this tale similar to Twain's earlier A DOG'S TALE.~Told from the horse's point of view, this is the tale of Buffalo Bill's fictional favorite scout horse (Soldier Boy), who befriends an orphan girl whom he saves from wolves. He is stolen and ends up gored in a bullfight ring; she rushes to his side and is fatally gored herself. [MacDonnell]~This copy is just about fine, with very little of the usual spine fading; the white spine lettering is entirely present. McBride p. 232; Blanck 3500. Item #13169
