SYLVIE AND BRUNO CONCLUDED.

[with 1893 dust jacket] With Forty-six Illustrations by Harry Furniss. London: Macmillan and Co., 1893. 5 pp undated ads. Original red cloth pictorially decorated in gilt, all edges gilt, with dust jacket.

First Edition of Carroll's conclusion to his 1889 novel/fairy tale, written with an even more serious tone than the earlier book. We say "novel/fairy tale" because that's exactly what it is: one plot is set in the real (Victorian) world, and touches upon serious issues such as religion and morality, while the other concurrent plot is set in the fantasy world of Fairyland, filled with nonsense elements and poems (à la Alice).~Included are many illustrations, often bordering on the grotesque, by Harry Furniss. The dedicatory verse hides the name of the dedicatee (Enid Stevens) in the third letter of each line.~This is a fine, bright copy of this handsome volume. Included is the dust jacket, grey paper printed in dark blue (with "cash price 7/6net" printed on its spine -- which agrees with the price on the book's title page, "price three half-crowns" -- though it does appear as if a label with a different price may once have resided there). The jacket is in very good condition, virtually entirely present, with grey reinforcing paper applied on the verso to the top and bottom half-inch. Williams Madan & Green 250. Item #13175
