London: Macmillan and Co., 1929. [In three Volumes.] Original full red morocco with gilt-decorated inner dentelles, and marbled endpapers.
First Edition, which consisted of 525 copies. The three volumes contain all of Kipling's poetry up to 1929, with the exception of his two first volumes that were published by his parents (SCHOOLBOY LYRICS and ECHOES); as Kipling had requested, the poems are here presented in the order published, book by book. A year later, a similar number of American copies was published by Doubleday Doran, but not in a full morocco binding like this.~This is one of the copies that is neither numbered, nor signed by Kipling, nor equipped with the Kipling frontispiece portrait -- likely an advance or publisher's file copy. It is in just-about-fine condition, with scarcely any wear (the spines are very slightly faded); the leaves are still unopened. Richards A386; Stewart 574. Item #13533
