MEMOIR OF FLEEMING JENKIN. Robert Louis Stevenson.

New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1887. 8 pp undated ads. Original red cloth.

First (Separate) Edition. Prof. H.C. Fleeming Jenkin, who had been Stevenson's engineering instructor in 1871 at the University of Edinburgh, had remained a close friend ever since. He died in mid-1885, and in 1887 the two-volume PAPERS OF FLEEMING JENKIN was published in England, to which RLS contributed this memoir. The present volume was actually published in January 1888; the memoir was not separately issued in England until 1912.~This is a near-fine copy (a touch of wear at the foot of the spine, some very faint cover specks) -- of a book that is quite uncommon. (Scribner's published this only as a favor to RLS, knowing it would not sell well in America -- so they undoubtedly printed a small number of copies.) Beinecke 477. Item #13661
