First Edition of this collection of "stories and studies of strange things" of Japan. Hearn had recently been "Lecturer on English Literature in the Imperial University of Tokyo" (per the title page).~This copy does have the publisher's "Introduction," and the title leaf is conjugate -- issue "C" of Blanck ("no sequence has been established and simultaneous publication is quite possible"). It is a fine, bright copy, with just a touch of rubbing on the red-orange flowers. Blanck 7940. Housed in a cloth slipcase, this copy bears the small leather "Blairhame" bookplate of the noted collector Mrs. J. Insley Blair. Item #13704
