New York: Charles L. Webster & Co., 1892. 7 pp undated ads. Original grey-green cloth decorated in black and olive.
First Edition, mixed state (with the earlier patterned endpapers, but also with the frontispiece portrait of Twain that is considered to have been inserted only in the later copies issued). In our experience most copies do not have this frontispiece portrait. This book was issued as a volume in the publisher's "Fiction, Fact, and Fancy Series"; there was no corresponding English edition.~Though MERRY TALES is not an uncommon book, fine copies of it are today few and far between; this is such a copy, unusually fine and bright (generic bookplate). McBride p. 156; Blanck 3435 (state "B"). Item #13825
