First Edition (English -- published on the same day as the American) of this account of "eight years of trouble" between the natives and the foreigners on the island of Upolu (Samoa), where Stevenson then lived -- due to his worldwide search for air suitable for his lungs. The Tauchnitz edition of this work was destroyed by order of the German government, due to the "unfavorable" descriptions of German activities in the area.~This is a fine copy.
