An Extravagant Story. London: William Heinemann, 1901. Original yellow cloth.
First English Edition of what is regarded as Conrad's only science fiction tale (though the work is largely Hueffer's), involving people from the Fourth Dimension -- a dystopian society without feeling, intent upon inheriting the earth.~This copy is in the publisher's remainder binding (following three slight variations of the primary binding) -- plain yellow cloth printed on the spine only, without mention of the publisher -- considerably scarcer than the primary binding. It is in very good condition, with very light soil and shelf-wear, and a little foxing on a few leaves within. Cagle A6a(4). Provenance: discreet "SJS" bookplate of Conrad collector Stanley Seeger, as well as an earlier (the original?) Carnavon (North Wales) bookseller's label. Item #13917
