RODNEY STONE [colonial]. A. Conan Doyle.

RODNEY STONE [colonial].

With Illustrations. London and Bombay: George Bell & Sons, 1896. 10 pp [paginated 7-16] undated ads. Original mottled light pink cloth.

First Edition, colonial issue, being No. 143 in Bell's Indian and Colonial Library. RODNEY STONE is a historical novel that curiously brings together Lord Nelson and the sport of boxing, and is illustrated by Sidney Paget (the illustrator of Sherlock Holmes). According to G&G "The colonial issue was issued before the book was published so as to be on sale in the Colonies at approximately the same time."

This copy is in pink cloth (others were in wrappers); it bears the small paste-down stamp of a Buenos Aires bookseller. It is in very good-plus condition with a bit of foxing on the title page (from the frontispiece tissue), and is unusually free of soil for such light-colored cloth. Green & Gibson A20b. Item #14022

Price: $225.00
