New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1948. Original orange-brown cloth decorated in grey, with dust jacket.
First Edition of Willa Cather's last book, a posthumous collection of three tales. She had intended for a fourth (longer) tale to be included as well, but she died in 1947 without finishing it -- so that manuscript was destroyed. One of the three that is present is "The Best Years," her last story, noteworthy because in it she returns to Nebraska, home of her famous O PIONEERS! and MY ANTONIA of three decades earlier. This is a fine copy in a very nearly fine dust jacket. Crane A23.a.i. Item #14195
