PIMPERNEL AND ROSEMARY. Baroness Orczy, "Emmuska"

London: Cassell and Company, (1924). Original medium-red cloth lettered in black, with (slightly later) pictorial dust jacket.

First Edition. Of the eighteen "Scarlet Pimpernel" titles written by Baroness "Emmuska" Orczy, this was about in the middle in order of publication (from THE SCARLET PIMPERNEL in 1905 to MAM'ZELLE GUILLOTINE in 1940) -- but it is near the end (16th) in chronological order of the saga. In fact, it takes place not during the French Revolution (like the earliest ones), but in 1917! -- featuring Peter Blakeney, great-great-grandson of the original "Scarlet Pimpernel" Sir Percy Blakeney. Peter ventures to Hungary (country of the author's birth) to save a family from German occupation and to save his love interest Rosemary from a devious double agent.

This copy is in red cloth lettered in black, and is in close-to-fine condition. Included is a pictorial dust jacket, in essentially fine condition -- though it is from a slightly later printing (ca. 1927 -- same pictorial design, but with the price reduced to 3'6); the actual 1924 dust jacket in decent shape is extremely scarce. Item #14520
