Autograph Letter Signed, to "My dear Bannery [?].
One page, on stationery imprinted in red with 39, Montagu Square, dated by hand "27 Oct. 1873".
This brief letter reads:
I am very sorry to say that I have an engagement for Saturday the 15th which makes it incumbent upon me to be in town on Friday night. Yours very faithfully [signed] Anthony Trollope
We have been unable to ascertain who the recipient was, but "My dear --------" seems to imply a level of collegiality. Trollope had just moved to Montagu Square that April; almost a century later, a flurry of other notables lived on Montagu Square -- Ted Hughes after his separation from Sylvia Plath, Ringo Starr (who sublet it to Jimi Hendrix but the latter was soon evicted), John and Yoko... The letter is in fine condition. Item #14567
