London: William Heinemann, 1897. 8 pp undated ads (plus endpapers imprinted with ads). Original rose pebbled cloth.
First Colonial Edition -- which is to say, the colonial issue of Heinemann's second impression (which impression may have consisted only of these colonial copies). Heinemann published the domestic edition (1,250 copies, dated 1896) on 12 June 1896; there was a second impression (250 copies, dated 1897) published in February 1897. Both E&L and Supino wonder whether there were any colonial copies dated 1896, but neither ever saw one.
This copy, in the original rose pebbled cloth, is in close-to-fine condition (one bit of discoloration at the bottom of the rear joint): this colonial edition is scarce in any condition, but it is even scarcer in this condition -- considering that most copies went out to far-flung corners of the planet. Supino 46.3.0; Edel & Laurence F41 (and see A46). Item #14725
