London: Macmillan and Co., 1910. Original grey printed wrappers.
First (copyright) Edition, which according to the publisher consisted of only ten copies (but see below; Stewart put the number at eight, and Martindell at seven). One of nine tales featuring "Puck" that would appear in REWARDS AND FAIRIES five months later, SIMPLE SIMON and the others were printed in order to perfect the English copyright. As Richards documents, soon after publication all nine booklets tended to turn up together, with the result that most are now in institutions (again, see below).
This is a fine copy, housed in a morocco-backed slipcase with inner chemise. Richards A235 ("ten copies are known to be in British and North American institutional libraries alone, so the true limitation may be larger" [-- which this copy proves]); Stewart 339; Martindell 124. Item #14791
