THE TAR-BABY and Other Rhymes of Uncle Remus.
With Illustrations in Color by A.B. Frost and E.W. Kemble. New York: D. Appleton and Company, 1904. Original light orange-brown cloth decorated in gilt.
First Edition of Harris's fourth Uncle Remus title -- this one a profusely-illustrated volume of verse. In addition to the title poem, the 26 verses include "De Gater and de Rabbit Gizzard," "Brer Rabbit's Gigglin'-Place" and "A Howdy Song." This volume is beautifully illustrated, beautifully printed, and beautifully bound (an initialed binding design by Decorative Designers -- the front cover gilt is part glossy, part matte).
This is a very good-plus, perhaps near-fine copy (very light soil, a touch of wear at the extremities, spine gilt less than bright). A rather uncommon and highly-sought Harris title. Blanck 7154. Item #14967
