Item #15047 THE TALE OF MRS. TIGGY-WINKLE. Beatrix Potter.

London: Frederick Warne and Co., 1905. Original brown-green paper-covered boards with cover pictorial onlay.

First Edition, first or second printing (indistinguishable), of this much-loved tale of the hedgehog washerwoman (in which Peter Rabbit and Benjamin Bunny make a cameo appearance). "Although THE TALE OF MRS. TIGGY-WINKLE was the sixth of Beatrix Potter's books to be published, the story had actually been carefully planned as far back as 1901, although it was not actually written down until the following year" [Linder].

There are known to have been two printings in (and dated) 1905, but there are no known differences between the two; the third printing was not until 1906 (so dated). Some copies are in light brown boards, some in light green, and some in decorated cloth -- no priority); this copy appears to be light green largely faded to light brown. The spine of this copy has been replaced with matching stiff paper; otherwise it is in very good-plus condition (front endpaper slightly cracked, fore-edge of frontispiece plate worn). A curiously scarce title. Linder p. 425; Quinby 8. Item #15047
