A CHRISTMAS CAROL and BARDELL AND PICKWICK.
As Condensed by Himself, for his Readings. With an Illustration [each] by S. Eytinge Jr. Boston: Ticknor and Fields, 1868. Original pale blue printed wrappers.
This wrappered volume contains two of the "readings" condensed by Dickens for his second American tour; each has its own title page and frontispiece plate by Eytinge, and the two are separately-paginated. On the front cover, where these wrappered volumes are called the "Illustrated Copyright Edition," the latter tale is titled "The Trial from Pickwick"; the inside rear cover advertises "The Illustrated Library Edition" of the author's works, while the rear cover promotes the "The Charles Dickens Edition."
This copy is in very good condition, with almost half of the wrapper's fragile spine missing, but with little other wear or soil. We have had a copy with an ownership inscription dated 30 Nov 1867, indicating the volume's true year of publication. Podeschi (Yale) D43; Carr (UTexas) B683. Housed in a hard-board folder with a typed cover label. Item #15221
