SUSPENSE. A Napoleonic Novel.

SUSPENSE. A Napoleonic Novel.

With an Introduction by Richard Curle. Garden City NY: Doubleday, Page & Company, 1925. Original navy blue cloth decorated in gilt, with dust jacket.

First Trade Edition, second issue, of Conrad's last (unfinished) novel, posthumously published three months after DP&Co's 377-copy limited edition (the first impression) -- but one day before Dent's London edition. This "second trade issue" is actually the third impression: it is the first to have the Introduction by Richard Curle (and a reference to it on the title page).

This volume is in fine condition. Included is the appropriately second-state dust jacket, light blue non-pictorial; the jacket for the "first trade issue" (second impression) is pictorial in gold, black and orange. This jacket's condition is very good, with some edge-wear, a small brown mark at the fore-edge, and a partial split at the front joint. Supino A26.3.0 (this copy); Smith pp 100-101. Provenance: discreet bookplate of Conrad bibliographer David J. Supino. Item #15451

Price: $195.00
