Item #15553 A HORSE'S TALE. Mark Twain.

A HORSE'S TALE.

Illustrated by Lucius Hitchcock. New York and London: Harper & Brothers, 1907. Original red cloth pictorially decorated in black, white and brown.

First Edition of this tale similar to Twain's earlier A DOG'S TALE.

Told from the horse's point of view, this is the tale of Buffalo Bill's fictional favorite scout horse (Soldier Boy), who befriends an orphan girl whom he saves from wolves. He is stolen and ends up gored in a bullfight ring; she rushes to his side and is fatally gored herself [MacDonnell].

This near-fine copy has no soil no wear, but as usual the red spine is faded; atypically, the white spine lettering is present (though it doesn't stand out well against the faded cloth). McBride p. 232; Blanck 3500. Item #15553

Price: $195.00
