First American Edition, of which this is one of 150 large-paper copies signed by Kipling (this being copy #6); there was also a UK signed edition, but it consisted of 500 un-numbered copies. This is a collection of previously-published Kipling poems (plus a previously-UNpublished concluding poem "The Scholars"), accompanied by twelve color plates by Donald Maxwell, plus 22 monotone head- and tail-pieces. (As Richards points out, Maxwell -- related to Kipling by marriage -- had been an accomplished naval artist/correspondent during the Great War, and was a frequent visitor at the Kiplings' "Bateman's.")
This is a near-fine copy (slight browning at the edges of the boards); there is no jacket, but the only jacket issued with this large-paper issue was a glassine one. Richards A370. Item #15911
